The National Medical Association (NMA)’s Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly is acclaimed as the nation’s foremost forum on medical science and African American health. Each year, African American physicians and other health professionals from across the country convene to participate in the scholarly exchange of medical advances, discuss health policy priorities, and to share experiences. Through NMA’s 26 Scientific Specialty Sections, the Convention attracts the broadest spectrum of African American physicians, academicians and scientists in the country.

Hotel Accommodations

265 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30303, you must be registered for the convention to make your housing reservations. When you register your confirmation form will include a link to book your housing.

Health professionals interested in presenting during the NMA Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly to be held July 30 – August 3, 2022 in Atlanta, GA are invited to submit abstracts. The deadline for all abstract submissions is Monday, May 23, 2022. Abstracts may be submitted for consideration for either an oral (podium) presentation, or a poster presentation, or for both.

Now Accepting Applications! Residents, fellows, postdoctoral scientists, and early-stage investigators interested in academic medicine are encouraged to apply. Award includes participation in a two-day academic career development workshop and provides support for travel, hotel, and registration for selected applicants to attend the 2022 NMA Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly in Atlanta, GA.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts for oral and poster presentations must be submitted via the online form below. No other electronic formats will be accepted.

  • The submitting author is designated as the presenting author.

  • All communications regarding the abstract submission will only be directed to the submitting author.

  • Abstract authors (primary and co-authors) must disclose their financial relationships with commercial entities.

  • An abstract must have a short, specific title (containing no abbreviations) that indicates the nature of the investigation.

  • Abstracts are limited to 500 words. This does not include the title. Abstracts exceeding this limit will be rejected.

  • Nonstandard abbreviations (kept to a minimum) must be placed in parentheses after the first use of the word or phrase abbreviated.

  • The abstract should identify the presentation objectives and the gap in healthcare provider competency, performance, and/or patient outcomes examined.

  • Please proofread abstracts carefully to avoid errors before submission.

  • Use generic drug names. Presentations must also give a balanced view of therapeutic options.

  • The abstract cannot contain illustrations, images, or graphs. If the abstract is accepted, presenters can include these items in their onsite presentations.

  • An abstract may contain one small table.

  • To ensure that the abstract receives proper scientific consideration, please be sure to indicate the appropriate specialty section/category. Abstracts not indicating a specialty section/category may be rejected.

  • The deadline for all abstract submissions is Monday, May 23, 2022. Abstracts are reviewed by the program committees on a rolling basis.

This year NMA authors will have their own space (Booth 723) in the Exhibit Hall. The Exhibit Hall hours are: Sunday, July 31 (Opening Reception) between 5:30pm – 7:30pm, and Monday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 2 between 10:00am – 3:00pm.

What to Expect

  • We anticipate between 4-6 participating authors.

  • Each author will have their own six-foot table and one-two chairs (contingent upon spacing). Depending on the number of request beyond 6, we might be able to support one or two additional authors in NMA Central.

  • Authors may display books, and a small poster on their table as desired, taking care not to disrupt adjacent authors.

  • Authors who are participating in the Authors Corner must be a current NMA member and registered for the conference.

  • You are welcome to occupy the Authors Corner on any or all of the three designated days the exhibit hall will be open.

  • Authors who commit to occupying the “Authors Corner” but fail to show or cancel will not be invited back the following year.

  • Authors are invited to utilize the NMA Central’s storage room for books (limited number). The storage room is locked after hours, however, NMA takes no responsibility for any books left in the room.

  • Authors are responsible for packing and shipping any remaining books by 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2. The convention center staff may dispose of all books remaining after 3:00 pm.
