Background
The Mile High Medical Society (MHMS), a chapter of the National Medical Association, was originally established in 1965. After many years of inactivity, It was re-established in 2015. Dr. Johnny E. Johnson is currently the president. The Mile High Medial Society wants to ensure the development, sustainability, and viability of African-American/Black physicians in the Denver metropolitan area.
Who We Are
Each year seems to get busier at the MHMS as the number of issues impacting healthcare continues to increase. These issues now run the gamut from comprehending the COVID-19 pandemic impact and dealing with racism as a public health crisis to eliminating affirmative action. These are just a few of the topics addressed since we reconvened as an active medical society.
Our Role
Scanning the breadth of contemporary developments in healthcare and communicating these issues to practicing physicians in a relevant manner is one of the most important roles the MHMS serves for the Denver Medical Community.
Engagement & Awards
The members of the Mile High Medical Society have become engaged with the National Medical Society as a state local society. MHMS received the NMA Local State Medical Society of the Year Award in 2020. We have also received the Dr. Justina Ford Award for our outstanding contribution to he medical community.
